Meet Camilla

We created this narrative based Video Game with the goal of representing the story of a young woman coming to terms with her own femininity. On this page, you can meet our main character, Camilla, as well as read about the concept behind our game. (without spoiling too much, of course)

Camilla

Meet our main character, Camilla! Camilla loves reading, nature and collecting bugs, especially her stick insects Twiggy and Leafy. She has a best friend, Delilah, who she spends a lot of time with. She lives with her parents and her older brother. In Dreamweaver, you get to follow her throughout her life; you check in with her at ages 8, 14 and 20. In these phases, Camilla struggles to give meaning to femininity. Because in reality, what does it even mean to be a woman?

We believe this is different for everyone. So by showing you how this felt for Camilla, we want to encourage you to find your own meaning in this. These struggles are in no way meant to represent struggles of all people who grew up or identify as women. On the contrary, we purposely made Camilla in our image. As six white people who mostly present as female, we thought it would be best to tell a story close to our personal experience, thus making Camilla look like us. She is all of us, but we also hope you can find a little bit of yourself in her.

The Room

The main way in which Camilla’s personality and self-expression can be discovered, is through her bedroom. Take your time to look around and interact with items! Everything in the room is very special to her, so make sure to look at everything. By interacting with her room, you can find out what her daily life looks like. Perhaps the most important part of the room is her diary: you can collect entries by looking around the room. These entries are not just for fun; they can help you figure out more about the game and how to solve the puzzles later!

As Camilla gets older, her self-expression changes. You can see this in the way she dresses, but also in the way she decorates her room. We hope you have fun discovering all the little details.

The Dreamworld

After starting to write in her new diary she named ‘Hopper’, Camilla ends up in a strange world where her plushies come to life. The ever cheerful Unicorn, moody Bear and busy Octopus say they have always lived here. Though it is a beautiful and magical place, it also seems to be out of balance somehow. To help its peaceful residents, she has to solve puzzles. These puzzles remind her of something . . . but she just can’t put her finger on it . . . Luckily, she has Hopper to help her figure everything out (though Hopper seems more scared than she is herself). She hears residents talking about a witch in the North causing all this chaos, but has yet to find the courage to face her.

In every life phase, Camilla fases different issues and has different emotional responses to them. These plushies have the opportunity to act as a mirror, helping her work through the issues by making her face them in the Dreamworld.
